SA legend David Kramer headlines at 5th Franschhoek Oesfees

Authentic harvest festival a rousing hotbed of rural music and lekker kos

The incomparable David Kramer returns to the annual Franschhoek Oesfees – now in its fifth year – joining headliners Theuns Jordaan, Emo Adams and Chris Chameleon at Solms-Delta wine estate at South Africa’s only truly authentic harvest festival.  In association with the ATKV, the event has become known throughout South Africa as the pre-eminent showcase for rural music of the Boland and beyond, as well as a joyful end-of-harvest celebration for the valley’s farm workers.  It will be held on Saturday, 24 March, 10am to 9pm (gates open 9am).

With the inimitable Soli Philander as MC of the day, other performers include Afrikaans hip-hop/folk fusion band Tribal Echo, legendary spoon-slide guitarist Hannes Coetzee, Cape Jazz players Hot Water, the Paarl Boys and La Rochelle Choirs (on stage with Chris Chameleon!), local female boereorkes the Kaapse Affodille, alongside Solms-Delta’s very own home-grown bands.  Performing on their own turf will be the Gramadoelas, Delta Valley Entertainers, Delta Vastrap Genootskap, Delta Optel Band, Lekker Lekker Delta, Delta Langbroeke, the Delta 4 & 5 and the Soetstemme ladies choir.

Food stalls (including Halaal) will be dishing up traditional favourites like chicken and veg breyani, braai bord, snoek en patat, wildspastei and bees afval, all of which can be enjoyed picnic-style on the farm’s beautiful grounds, complemented by Solms-Delta’s own wines, with music-inspired names like Langarm, Vastrap and Cape Jazz Shiraz.  Kids are welcome at the Oesfees, which features a Kiddies Area complete with games and equipment.

Tickets cost R95 for early birds or R110.00 per person if pre-booked (at the farm or online from www.ticketbreak.co.za).  Tickets can also be purchased at the gate for R130.  Free entry for Children under 12yrs if accompanied by their parents.  Tickets exclude food and beverage coupons, which are available for purchase at the event.  For information, see www.solms-delta.co.za or call 021 874 3937 or email info@solms-delta.co.za.
